Objectives

Objectives to Meet the Vision

Development & Design

Use land efficiently to preserve high quality agricultural land.

To provide a mix of affordable market homes and smaller houses/flats suited to those wishing to downsize, to secure their first home, or to live in the parish due to local connections.

Ensure development is in keeping with the local area and does not detract from the rural nature of its surroundings.

To concentrate development within, or immediately adjacent to, existing settlement boundaries.

Wherever possible, decarbonising energy supplies through the introduction of energy efficiency housing.

Ensure that where removal of boundaries is necessary, they are replaced with native species.

Environment & Landscape

To preserve the important views within the Parish.

Protect and maintain the dark skies in our Parish.

To have a thriving community which values and maintains its heritage assets.

Protect and enhance areas of Local Green Space that are of significance to the community including the identification of new community spaces.

Infrastructure & Community

To support appropriate business development to build a strong economy with local employment that benefits all residents.

Improve public spaces and traffic management within and through the Parish to provide easier, safer, and more pleasant access for residents and visitors.

Ensure appropriate infrastructure is in place to support new development.

Travel & Transport

Maintain and improve footpath/cycle ways to create a more connected parish for residents and visitors alike, limiting the need for vehicular travel within the Parish.

To provide appropriate levels of parking within new developments to ensure on road parking is minimised.

What's Next?

Grateley is an attractive place to live and as residents, we recognise the uniqueness and want to retain its rural feel and sense of community. It’s therefore particularly important to us that Grateley develops in a way that complements its picturesque country setting.

Community participation is at the heart of our Neighbourhood Plan. A crucial part of the process is to demonstrate to the examiner that the community has been involved at all stages of the process, by direct involvement, or through open events and consultation via questionnaires and surveys etc.

From the feedback you provided at the Community Event and the results of the Survey, the Steering Group will commence writing draft policies which form the backbone of the Neighbourhood Plan. Updates on the development of the policies will be published on this website.
